In an unexpected turn of events, Tumelo Madlala, a significant player in the Senzo Meyiwa murder investigation, has refuted the account Kelly Khumalo gave of the awful day the late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana custodian was cruelly slain.
An already mysterious case that has captivated the nation since its inception has grown more convoluted as a result of this recent development.
Senzo Meyiwa’s friend and State witness Tumelo Madlala has come out with a contrasting account of the circumstances leading up to Meyiwa’s untimely death.
Kelly Khumalo’s version of the events that took place on that fatal day differs dramatically from Madlala’s conflicting story. Khumalo earlier gave a thorough statement that was crucial to the investigation. At the time, Khumalo and Meyiwa were dating.
Kelly claimed in her statement that she witnessed Senzo Meyiwa, Mthokozisi Thwala, and Tumelo battling with one of the supposed intruders who had broken into the residence that evening.
Nxumalo read from the singer’s statement during the trial, describing how he noticed a speck of blood on the defendant’s back. When he turned him over, he saw that his chest had been covered in a sizable amount of blood.
Nxumalo went on to read that the singer held the defendant while he collapsed on the couch and screamed for assistance. The singer’s son was reportedly standing near to the shooter at the time, who was still inside the home.
Tumelo claimed to have only observed splatters or patches of blood in his evidence, which Nxumalo pointed out contradicted Kelly’s account.
Tumelo replied, “That statement… Even the blood she’s mentioning, I’m not sure where she saw it, so I want that person to come over and explain. I recall that the house was only covered with blood stains.
The witness refuted Kelly’s claim that Mthokozisi Thwala engaged in combat with any of the intruders. Mthokozisi did not fight anyone, Tumelo insisted, because he is not a violent person.
I’d be pleased if you set that remark aside and let that individual come here and explain that foolishness, Tumelo continued.
